Assessment 3# - Reflective Pieces due date TBA 8pm submit to Turnitin

Specific information about the 3 reflective pieces
You are required to write three separate reflective pieces for this assignment:

Using some the readings, videos and course content as a starting point The first reflective piece requires you to:

1. The first reflective piece requires you to reflect on the importance of ethics both in your professional and personal life.
Information: Read Articles:
a) How will you measure your life?
Author: Christensen, C. (2010) (e reading).
b) Becoming a First Class Noticer
Author: Bazerman, M. (2014) (e reading)
c) Platts, J, (2003) (e reading)
Way of making sense: Useful conceptual background might come from the segment of the course which discusses what it means to be professional, or from the part on ethics.
Personal experience: this may be experience you have had of other people who are memorable or influential because of values they displayed, or your own personal experience. Any other articles or course materials that have had an impact on your ethical stance in relation to how you want to live your life and how you will act in your future career

2. The second reflective piece journal requires you to reflect on an aspect of careers.
Topic: What I intend to do to ensure my two key career values are achieved in my future professional life

Information: Spend an hour working through the Careers workbook. Students will complete this task in class time-you will be given a hard copy version of the workbook. Choose two of the 56 career values listed on pages 4-6 of the Careers workbook as the topic for this reflection. Other readings from the course (will be discussed with your lecturer) can also be used to inform your reflections)
Way of making sense: Useful conceptual background might come from the segment of the course which discusses what it means to be professional, developing cultural skills, achieving work/life balance, or any other articles form this course that relate to values you have identified.
Personal experience: this may be experience you have had of other people who are memorable or influential because of values they displayed, or your own personal experience
Any other articles or course materials that have had an impact on your ethical stance in relation to how you want to live your life and how you will act in your future career

3. The third reflective piece requires you to reflect on how business should act sustainably.
Topic: In what ways should businesses act to be socially responsible?
Information: Read Mackey, J (2012) the kind of capitalist you want to be (e reading).
Way of making sense: Useful conceptual background might come from the segment of the course which discusses social sustainability, or from the part on the relationship between business and society.
Personal experience: this may be experience you have had of occasions where a business has placed undue emphasis on profit with unfortunate consequences for people either workers, community members or customers, or where the concern shown by a business for the community has had positive consequences, or some other personal experience.

Reflective journal: the task
This assignment is designed to develop and assess the capacity for life-long learning, commitment to ethical action and social responsibility, and the body of knowledge relating to business and society. The capacity to reflect is an important element of professional life. It enhances the capacity to evaluate current knowledge and to understand and accept personal weaknesses and strengths. The journal will encourage and assist students to recognise that ethical decision and preference for ethical action do not necessarily lead to ethical action.
Description of the assignment
The assignment requires the writing of three reflective parts. Each part will reflect on a specific activity within the course. The journal should not exceed 2000 words in length.
There will be a reference list at end of assignment.
There will be exercises in class to assist students in understanding the concept of reflection and to provide an opportunity to practise reflective writing. This will occur before the first entry is due.
Assessment criteria
·         Extent to which  each answer contains reflective writing of own thoughts and drawn from course content and the wider world.
·         Depth of reflection.
·         Ability to convey reflection clearly in written English.
Feedback
Feedback on this assessment will be provided on the Feedback form. Please submit a copy of the feedback form in Word format with the turnitin  submission for the marker’s use. Copies in Word format are provided on the course site.
Please complete the self assessment rubrics at the bottom of the feedback sheet and attach a copy to the end of the assignment.
When the feedback sheet is returned students can compare their own assessment with that of the marker as the feedback sheet and the rubrics follow the same format.

Plagiarism and referencing

Reflective assignments require a record of the writer’s thoughts about individual learning and experience. As such one might expect that there will be little need for the inclusion of references and citations. There are two exceptions. Where the journal entry refers to a specific event – a TV interview, or an item discussed on the web for instance – there needs to be a reference to allow that item to be found. If the reflection uses material written by others then it must be clear which parts are written by the student and which parts cited by you are written by others. Please provide a reference to all suggested readings that you use.

The feedback form for this assignment is given on the Course website
There will be exercises in class to assist students in understanding the concept of reflection and to provide an opportunity to practice reflective writing. This will occur before the first piece entry needs to be written.
